Description	:	William Weldon Jones of Chester, MD passed away on January 25, 2018, one day before what would have been his 73rd wedding anniversary. He was 91. Born on January 2, 1927 in Chester, MD, the son of the late Dewey Ellis and Eleanor Thomas Jones. He worked for the State of Maryland on the ferry system that ran from Matapeake to Sandy Point until the Bay Bridge opened in the summer of 1952. Born on January 2, 1927 in Chester, MD, the son of the late Dewey Ellis and Eleanor Thomas Jones. He worked for the State of Maryland on the ferry system that ran from Matapeake to Sandy Point until the Bay Bridge opened in the summer of 1952. After that he worked for Trumpy Yachts in Annapolis in the finishing house and various marinas on Kent Island and Kent Narrows. He also worked at St. Marys Catholic School in Annapolis. Never one to sit, he worked well into his 80s until his health deteriorated. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, riding his moped and family activities. He had fond memories of playing music on the local radio stations in downtown Annapolis and Easton, but he cherished the times he played with Mel Price the most. He would often play music at church events or family functions. He could always be found having coffee at many local establishments around the Island where he enjoyed conversation with friends or a stranger who quickly became a friend. Weldon is survived by his wife Mary Grimes Jones of Chester, MD; Children Weldon Buddy Jones (Nancy) of Cambridge, MD; Carolyn Baxter of Chester, MD; Nancy Holbrook of Webster Springs, WV; Charles Tubby Jones (Wanda) of Cambridge, MD, and the granddaughter that he and Mary raised, Kathy Clark (Ben) of Stevensville, MD; along with 10 other grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and brother Ellis Jones (Mary Helen) of Chester, MD and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Amelia Johnson; and siblings Benjamin Jones; Elva Smith; and Jeanette Compton. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 6-8 pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD, where a service will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11 am. Burial will follow in Kingsley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD.
