Central City Nonpariel, Thursday 8/23/1938: William Wesley Moore 1851-1938 Twenty-three days after celebrating his 87th birthday, July 23, 1938, William Wesley Moore was called by death. Active until the day he became ill, Friday, August 12, after three days' illness, Mr. Moore died Monday morning, August 15th. Death came at the St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, and was caused by infinities due to old age. Mr. Moore was one of a family of sixteen children, all of who have passed on, except two brothers, Elias Moore of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Charles Moore of Freeport, Illinois, and one sister, Mrs. Delila Savage of Enid Oklahoma. His parent were Mr. and Mrs. George Moore of Freeport, Illinois, formerly of the state of Pennsylvania. It was at Freeport, Illinois, that William Wesley Moore was born July 23, 1851. There he spent his early life and on November 21, 1872, married Elizabeth Margaret Fye. In the fall of 1873, they came to Nebraska (Hamilton county), where they took a homestead two miles south and one mile east of Marquette. After several years, the family moved to Aurora, where for a time Mr. Moore conducted a general merchandise store. After this they lived on a farm sic miles east of Aurora until 1894 when the Moore family moved to Merrick County, settling on a farm south of Central City. Here the family lived until after Mrs. Moore's death, which occurred April 23, 1908. Ten children, which all survive are: Mrs. Myrtle A Dixon, Marquette; Mary Ellen Dixon, Parma, Idaho; Mrs. Lillie Jane Richards, Central City; Charles A Moore, Gerber, California; William H Moore, Marquette; Harvey F Moore, Yakima, Washington; John G Moore, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Jessie B Woodward, Grants Pass, Oregon; Mrs. Ida S Woodward, Grants Pass Oregon; Walker L Moore, Silver Creek. Mr. Moore lived to see five generations of his family, having, 29 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. One of them, Robert Steider, born on his birthday July 23, 1935. On December 30, 1909, Mr. Moore married Laura Tibbetts. They continued to live in Central City and she survives her husband. Funeral services were held at Solt Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, August 18, at 2 o'clock, Rev. O W Carrell, president of Nebraska Central College, conducted the services. Out-of-town relatives attending were: Lawrence Moore, Fullerton, and Mr. and Mrs. John Fox and daughters, of Kearney. Interment was made in the Richland cemetery at Marquette.
