He had gone to the barn before breakfast to do chores. When breakfast time came, he did not return to the house and his daughter went out to find him. He was lying back of the horses in an unconscious condition, having been kicked in the head. Death followed in a short time. The funeral services were held at home Monday afternoon and was one of the largest attended funerals in this community for a long time. The services were in charge of Rev. C. E. Cushman of the Congregational church. Burial was made in Union cemetery. William, the son of Hannah Roper and Henry Holbrock, was born in Palatine, Illinois, February 16, 1865. His parents were devout Christian people and members of the German Lutheran church. In this church, William was baptized May 28, 1865. When five years old, his parents with their family moved to a farm three and one-half miles northeast of Iowa Falls. At the age of twenty-one Mr. Holbrock with two brothers started to farm the old Nichols place four miles north of Iowa Falls. To this farm he brought his bride November 12, 1887. Here Mr. Holbrock lived for fifteen years. After farming on other places, ten years ago Mr. Holbrock purchased the place which ever since has been home of his family, three miles south of Iowa Falls. To Mr. and Mrs. Holbrock there were born six children. Two of these died in infancy. The surviving are Mrs. O. C. Elliason of Kanawha, Wendell, Helen and Mary of Iowa Falls. Mr. Holbrock was a man who was greatly devoted to his home. He was anxious to have his children have the advantages of school and church. When the county school house in his district burned he was ready to open his home for the carrying on of his work. He also served as director for the school district and as trustee for Hardin township. Mr. Holbrock was a man with a high sense of humor, his integrity was above suspicion. He was an industrious, hard working man, a good neighbor and a man with a large circle of friends. He leaves to mourn his death, his companion for more than forty years, his children, three brothers August, Louie, and John, three sisters, Mrs. Adam Stall of Chicago, Mrs. Herman Fredricks and Mrs. H. Havens of Iowa Falls, three grandchildren, and a large number of friends. Retyped from the original article
