Hupp Comrade William Wilson Hupp was born Oct. 4, 1844, in Monroe county, Ohio, and died at his home, four miles north and one mile east of Overbrook, Aug. 11, 1912, of heart failure, aged 67 years, 9 months and 7 days. Mr. Hupp came to Kansas in 1854, and settled at his present home in the spring of 1869. Aug. 26, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie A. Losh. To this union twelve children were born, six sons and six daughters. His wife, six sons, four daughters, one brother and three sisters are left to mourn his sudden death. The following are the surviving children -- Philip T. and Andrew Hupp, R.F.D. No. 2, Carbondale; Minor B. Hupp, Whittier, Cali.; Mary C. Stevens, Topeka; Edward B. Hupp, Fredrick, Ok,; Alwida E. Hupp, London, Eng.; Chester W. Hupp, Melvern, Ka.; Maggie J. Jones, San Francisco, Cali.; Henry H. Hupp, Carbondale, Kan.; Mabel V. Brubaker, Kansas City, Mo. His brother, Philip T. Hupp, lives at Richland. His sisters are as follows: Mrs. Marinda Jones, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Elizabeth Walker, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. Sarah Ann Posey, Woonsocket, S.D. Two daughters, Matilda A. and Adah A., died March 30, 1895. The funeral services were conducted from the family residence by Rev. Harry White, of Richland, at 1 o'clock, Tuesday, Aug. 13th. Interment was made in the Ridgeway cemetery where the G.A.R. post of Richland, had charge. Mr. Hupp served in the civil war from 1861 to 1865 and was in Lawrence at the time of Price's raid. Mr. Hupp's death was very sudden, He was in town, as was his custom, Saturday afternoon, and retired that night in seeming good health. About 4 o'clock the next morning he got up saying he could not sleep. When Mrs. Hupp got up to get breakfast, she saw him lying on the couch in the sitting room and thinking him asleep went on with her work. When she had the meal ready she went to call him and found that he had passed to the other life. Mr. Hupp was a good neighbor and friend and highly esteemed as was attested by the very large number that came to pay their last respects to him.
