He was married to Miss Eliza Susan Reed Oct 23, 1883, To this union there were born six children five sons and one daughter-Ernest Lee of Kansas City, Mo; Mrs May S Forth, Overbrook, Ks; Everett Skaggs, Kansas City, Mo.; Bernie Winfield Skaggs, Overbrook; L Hampton Skaggs and Ira Skaggs all of whom were present at the funeral of the father. Read More	William Winfield Scott Skaggs was born Dec 29, 1854 near Wolf Creek, Monroe Co, W Va. He was married to Miss Eliza Susan Reed Oct 23, 1883, To this union there were born six children five sons and one daughter-Ernest Lee of Kansas City, Mo; Mrs May S Forth, Overbrook, Ks; Everett Skaggs, Kansas City, Mo.; Bernie Winfield Skaggs, Overbrook; L Hampton Skaggs and Ira Skaggs all of whom were present at the funeral of the father. Mrs Skaggs died at her home near Oberbrook, July 11, 1909. Mr Skaggs was married again to Miss Winfred Foster, of Wolf Creek, W Va in Aug 1910. When a boy of 12 yrs the deceased united with the Baptist church and maintained his membership in that church till his death. On removing from West Va to Overbrook he placed his membership in the Appanoosa Baptist Church and on removing to Ottawa he became a member of the First Baptist church there with his wife. He took ill in March and rapidly declined, suffering much until his death July 4 at 8 pm at the age of 56 years 6 mo and 5 days. A short service was held at his home at 530 Beech St, Ottawa, Ks and his body was brought to his old home and laid beside his first wife in the cemetery here.His pastor Rev W A Elliott of the First Baptist church accompanied the family and conducted the service at the Overbrook church. Mr Skaggs was a man of strict honesty, high standards of living square in all of his dealings, and generous in his dealings with his fellow men. In his sickness and suffering he was patient and submissive, never murmuring nor complainig--always desirous of recovering that he might dwell longer in his happy home so recently made. He was the kindest of husbands and made friends readily. Mr Skaggs has long been a member of the Masonic lodge; the members of the Ottawa and Overbrook Lodges respectively serving as pall bearers and conducting impressive service at the grave. He was also a member if the Fraternal Aid. Besides his wife and his children he is survived by his brothers, Dore Skaggs, of Arkansas, C E Skaggs, of Wolf Creek, W Va and two sisters, Mrs Samuel Rader of Greenbriar county, and Mrs John Green, of Creamery, West Va.
