Obituary From "Ottumwa Daily Courier," August 13, 1951: BATAVIA–Willis Blanchard, 78, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Black, three miles west of Batavia. He was born February 18, 1873, in Pleasant Township, Wapello County, the son of Jacob and Mary Blanchard, and spent his entire life in the Batavia community. He was born February 18, 1873, in Pleasant Township, Wapello County, the son of Jacob and Mary Blanchard, and spent his entire life in the Batavia community. He married Hattie Kitterman, March 19, 1905, and she died February 10, 1948. Survivors are the daughter, Mrs. Black, a sister, Mrs. Priscilla Crawford, Appleton City, Mo., and three half-brothers, Tillet, Jake and Oliver Blanchard, all of Ottumwa. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesda;y in the Campbell Funeral Chapel here, Orville Smith in charge, and burial in the Batavia Cemetery. Mr. Blanchard engaged in farming until he retired and moved to Batavia in 1943.
