He was the son of William Hardin Singleton Williams (1836-1912) and Margaret Hail (1836-1897), the second of their five known children. His father, William, was born in/near the little town of Eubank in Lincoln Co., KY and died in Heyworth, McLean Co., Illinois where he is buried in the Heyworth Cemetery. Read More	*********************************************************************************** Willis Green Williams was born on Mar. 17, 1856 near Waynesboro, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. He was the son of William Hardin Singleton Williams (1836-1912) and Margaret Hail (1836-1897), the second of their five known children. His father, William, was born in/near the little town of Eubank in Lincoln Co., KY and died in Heyworth, McLean Co., Illinois where he is buried in the Heyworth Cemetery. Willis' father, William, was the son of Greenwell "Green" Williams (1810-1863) and Levisa "Vicie" Singleton (1812-bet 1860/70), both also born in Lincoln Co., KY. Green, a Union Civil War Soldier, died just 12 days after participating in the Battle of Vicksburg. He is buried in the Vicksburg National Military Cemetery in Vicksburg, Warren Co., Mississippi. His wife, Vicie, died between 1860-70 in Lincoln Co., KY and is buried in the Richard Singleton Cemetery in Waynesburg, Lincoln Co. where her parents are buried. Willis' paternal great-grandfather, Isaac Williams (1771-1826), had migrated with his parents, John Williams (1791-1834) and Alcey Lloyd (1749- ?), to Lincoln Co., KY from Frederick Co., Virginia in the late 1790s. Isaac had married Sarah "Sally" Floyd (1791-1834) in 1806 in Lincoln Co., KY. Willis' paternal GG-grandparents, John Thomas Williams (1715-aft 1744) and Anna Brasier (1722-aft 1744), had immigrated to Connecticut in America from London, England, not long after marrying in 1736. Willis' mother, Margaret, was born in Pulaski Co., KY and died in Kingtown, Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.). They were married on Jan. 17, 1856 in Lincoln Co., KY. She was the daughter of William Hail II (1806-1885) and Mary Aker (abt 1804-aft 1880). Both of Margaret's parents were born in Pulaski Co., KY. Margaret's father, William Hail II., divorced (legally ?) her mother, Mary Aker, about 1849. He died in Verona, Adams Co., Nebraska. Mary is thought to have died in Pulaski Co., KY. Sometime between 1861-66, Willis' father, William, left his wife, Margaret, and their five young children, moving to Callaway Co., KY. It is not known if he actually divorced Margaret, who did not remarry. She died in 1897 in Kingtown, Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.), KY a the age of 60. She is buried in the Kingtown Cemetery under the name of Margaret Hail Williams. In 1867, Willis' father, William (31), left Callaway Co., KY to elope to Tennessee in order to marry 16 year old Miranda Mayes (1851-1870). They then moved to McLean Co., Illinois. It is thought that William never returned to Kentucky to see his five children from his first marriage. Miranda died in 1870 at age 19, just three years after moving to Illinois. She and William had two children. William then married Sarah Jane Johnson (1845-1921) in 1871 to whom he was married for 41 years and had five known children. On Mar. 14, 1889 in Nebraska, Willis married Mary Catherine "Kate" Pfrehm (1868-1925). Mary was 20, Willis 32. Kate was born in Petersburg, Menard Co., Illinois. As a child she had moved with her parents to Nebraska sometime between 1873-79. About 1880, they moved to Custer Co., Nebraska. Willis and Kate had eight known children. In order of their birth they were Edna Mae Williams (1890-1890), Effie P. Williams (1890- ?), Minna Ann "Minnie" Williams (1891-1980), Claude Cyrus Williams (1895-1959), Charles Roy "Charlie" Williams (1896-1967), Arthur George Williams (1898-1965), Earl Owen Williams (1901-1998) and Essie Maggie Williams (1901-1984). Earl and Essie were fraternal twins. A 1901 family picture is attached to this memorial, When Willis' wife, Kate, died on Dec. 31, 1925 at the age of 57, she and Willis had been married for 35 years. Kate is buried in West Union Cemetery located in Sargent, Custer Co., Nebraska. Willis died about 19 years later (Oct. 17, 1944) in Riverton, Fremont Co., Wyoming at the age of 88. He was living there with his son, Claude Williams (1895-1959) and his family.
