Description	:	Willis McKinley Ryan, son of William Oliver Ryan and Hattie Brush Ryan, was born near Chelsea in Poweshiek County, Iowa on September 9, 1895, and died Sunday, October 23, 1983, in the veterans Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Ryan served with the US Navy from July 10, 1917 to February 6, 1919. He was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Manatt on February 14, 1923, near Brooklyn, Iowa and they were separated in 1925. Read More	Willis McKinley Ryan, son of William Oliver Ryan and Hattie Brush Ryan, was born near Chelsea in Poweshiek County, Iowa on September 9, 1895, and died Sunday, October 23, 1983, in the veterans Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Ryan served with the US Navy from July 10, 1917 to February 6, 1919. He was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Manatt on February 14, 1923, near Brooklyn, Iowa and they were separated in 1925. He then married Alathea Hoffman in November of 1926. They were later separated and he was re-united in marriage to Gwendolyn Manatt on January 30, 1931, in Galena, Illinois. He lived in Brooklyn, Chelsea, Des Moines and Grinnell, moving from Grinnell to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, in August of 1982. Mr. Ryan was a retired farmer, meat inspector, mechanic at Manatts of Brooklyn and had served as night marshal for the town of Brooklyn. Mr. Ryan was a member of the Francis Gallagher American legion Post # 294 and was a sixty five year Legion member. Surviving are his wife, Gwendolyn of Marshalltown, Iowa; one son, Willis G. Ryan of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Harriett Mc Gregor of Cedar Rapids, Iowan and Miss Sharon Ryan of Circleville, Ohio; two brothers, Homer Ryan of Brooklyn, Iowa, and John Ryan of Belle Plaine, Iowa; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Funeral services for Willis Ryan were held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, October 25, 1983, in the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church. Rev. Lynn Williams officiated and interment was in rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea, Iowa with military rites. Source: Nevenhoven Funeral Home records
