Wilma, 67, was born in Tenino, Wash., on Jan. 24, 1927. She later moved to Yakima, where she attended Yakima High School. She was living in White Swan, where she graduated from high school and met and married Hugh, to whom she was married 50 years. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jennifer Colwell of Kirkland; Brian Colwell of London; Jacob and Carey Nickels; Andrew and Joseph Henderson; and Delcinea and Nathan Whited. After moving to Ellensburg in 1948, Wilma belonged to the Ofelia Club and, with her husband, was a passionate bridge player. She was the certified directed of the Ellensburg Duplicate Bridge Club. Together, she and Hugh earned the coveted Life Master status from the American Contract Bridge League. As a devoted mother, grandmother and bridge player, her goal was to create order out of confusion at both the dinner table and the bridge table. Wilma had a gift of putting her feelings into poetry. The following, written by Wilma for a departed friend, captures the feelings of the family she leaves behind: A Friend Passes My world is rather sad today, For I've lost a lovely friend, Her passing leaves a helpless void, That only time will mend. I know that I shall miss her most, When things go wrong for me, With her calm and thoughtful way, She'd cause my fears to flee. Yes, I shall miss her very much, As time turns into years, But, part of herself she left to me, With this I dry my tears. Her funeral will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, Sept. 16, 1994, at the First Lutheran Church in Ellensburg. Viewing will be at Steward and Williams Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 15, 1994, from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Following interment at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, a gathering of friends and family will be held at the First Lutheran Church. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that remembrances be sent to Children's Hospital in Seattle.
