Passes Away Suddenly On Washington-Norfolk Steamboat. Wilmer D. Mills, for several years a resident of Crisfield but who more recently lived in Washington, being employed as Chief Engineer on one of the Washington-Norfolk steamboats, died suddenly on Wednesday of last week. About half an hour before the steamer docked at Norfolk, Mr. Mills complained of a pain in his left arm and it was soon realized that his condition was serious. As soon as the steamer made her dock, Mr. Mills was placed in an ambulance and rushed to a hospital, but expired before the hospital was reached. Paralysis of the heart was the cause of his death. Mr. Mills was a native of Pocomoke City, being a son of Wilmer D. Mills. Several years ago he was married to Miss Julia Sterling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Sterling, of the Lawsonia section of Crisfield, and shortly afterward he moved to this city and operated a Machine shop for several years. He was a machinist of marked ability, and about three years ago became connected with the Washington-Norfolk line, soon being made chief engineer of one of their palatial passenger steamers. He had recently purchased a nice home in Washington, and was just getting ready to enjoy life, when attacked by his fatal illness. The deceased was 38 years of age, and a young man of many admirable qualities. He was deservingly popular with a wife circle of friends, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. His sudden death was a matter of general regret. The remains were brought to Crisfield on Friday, accompanied by his wife and Mr. Robert Flora of Annapolis, a close personal friend. Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, parents of Mrs. Mills, were on a visit to Florida, but were advised of the death by Mr. Flora, and came home immediately, arriving in Crisfield Saturday night. Funeral services were held from Asbury M. E. church Monday morning, conducted by Rev. E. L. Bunce of Pocomoke city, in the absence of the pastor, Dr. W. F. Corkran, who was attending conference in Wilmington. Burial was in the Asbury cemetery. Mr. Mills is survived by his widow, Mrs. Julia Mills; two children, Edith and Stanley Mills; by his father, Wilmer D. Mills, two brothers, Messrs.
