Committal service will follow in the Occupy #1 Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale. Wilmer, 89, of Pitkin, entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 4, 2017 in Alexandria with his loving family by his side. He was born September 23, 1927 in Pitkin to the union of Ernest Mitch Thompson and Wordney (Willis) Thompson. He was a member of Occupy #1 Baptist Church and was a logger before retiring. Wilmer loved team roping, riding horses with his children, grandchildren, and friends. Rule was, grandchildren and great grandchildren had to ride a horse by one month old. Most of all he loved to talk to family and friends. He loved God. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Wordney Thompson; one son, Terry Thompson; grandsons, Todd Fontenot, Toby Thompson, and Jody Thompson; three brothers, Erby Thompson, Sr., Henry Thompson, and Delbert Thompson. Those left behind to cherish his memory are: his soulmate of 66 years, Girlie Thompson of Pitkin; two sons, Wilmer W.J. Thompson, Jr. of Pitkin and Alton Thompson of Iowa; two daughters, Laquita (Tony) Brister of Lake Charles and Denise Fontenot of Iowa; seven grandchildren, Shad, Shawn, Shannon, Jason, Scotty, Scarlet, and John Wayne; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Bryant Thompson and Ernest M. Thompson both of Pitkin; two sisters, Bonnie Mae Giles of Glenmora and Earlene Bottini of Stockton, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Pallbearers to serve will be Shad Brister, Shannon Brister, Shawn Brister, Jason Willis, Scotty Fontenot, and Hunter Webb. Honorary pallbearer to serve will be L. C. Coker. Visitation will be held at Freedom Baptist Church on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., then on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. in the church. obit provided by [email protected]
