Description	:	W. B. "Pete" Birchard, 91, of 3202 South 12th Street, Marshalltown, died Saturday morning, May 21st, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston. His death came peacefully at 10:55 A.M. with his family at his side. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 25th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Bobby Shomo officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Born Winfield Bancroft Birchard on March 19th, 1914, in Kellogg, Iowa, he was the son of Samuel and Emily (Day) Birchard. He received his education in the country schools of Kellogg and farmed with his parents. On November 28th, 1940, he was united in marriage to Alberta Buffington in Marshalltown. They farmed for ten years until moving to Marshalltown in December of 1950. Pete was employed with Fisher Controls for 27 years, retiring on March 31st, 1977. Mr. Birchard will be fondly remembered for his love of family, bowling and square dancing, gardening, flowers (especially iris), fishing, the outdoors and traveling to 49 States of the Union, the Caribbean and Canada. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 64 years, Alberta, his three dear daughters; Judy Henson of Marshalltown, Marland Birchard of Spanaway, WA, and Barbara (Larry) McGrew of Marshalltown, three precious grandchildren; Jennifer McGrew of Marshalltown, Kevin McGrew of Toledo and Kary (Eric) Moore of Lincoln, Iowa, as well as his great-grandsons Carter and Jacob Moore of Lincoln. Also surviving are his sisters Helen Harvey of San Jose, CA and Doris Niemants of Marshalltown as well as several nieces, nephews, Alberta's family and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, brothers Clinton, Myron and Tom and sisters Katherine Sharp and Alberta Crawford.
