He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Brooks Shaffer; and two sisters, Margaret Shaffer Frobase and Catherine Shaffer Blair. He was born October 16, 1928, to the late H.G. and Brooke Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Brooks Shaffer; and two sisters, Margaret Shaffer Frobase and Catherine Shaffer Blair. Teke was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School, West Virginia University, and after serving as a First Lieutenant in the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division in the Korean War, returned to West Virginia and graduated from the West Virginia University School of Law. He began his practice of Law as a law clerk for Federal Judge Ben Moore. He joined the family practice of Shaffer, Shaffer & Shaffer in Madison, W.Va., and in 1959, joined the law firm of Jackson, Kelly, Holt & O'Farrell, where he practiced law until his retirement in 1996. Best known for his defense trial practice, he also served as manager of the litigation department. Teke was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the Federation of Insurance & Corporate Counsel, International Association of Insurance Counsel, Defense Research Institute, West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel, American Board of Trial Advocates, American Bar Association, West Virginia State Bar Association, and Kanawha County Bar Association. He belonged to the AF & AM O'Dell Lodge No. 115, was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Beni Kedem Shriner. He was a long time member of the Baptist Temple, Charleston, where, in his early years, he coached church league basketball. Teke is survived by his wife of 30 years, Glenna Shuff Shaffer; his son, Ed Shaffer and fiancée Dee Dee of Florida; his daughter and her husband, Lynn and David Edmonds of Huntington; grandchildren, Steven Shaffer, Nicholas Golden, Nathan Edmonds, and Charlotte Edmonds. Teke is also survived by his brother, H.G. "Gus" Shaffer and wife Mary Lee of Glade Springs; and his sister, Jane Shaffer Johnson of Charleston. His extended family includes sisters-in-law, Janet Taylor and husband Carlos, and Judy O'Brien and husband George. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews, who enjoyed Uncle Teke's humor. Teke also felt very fortunate to have as his best friend, Melvin Rexroad and wife Helen of Morgantown. The family would like to extend special thanks to Stephen Crislip of Jackson Kelly, as well as Jerry Casto, firm pilot, for the use of the firm aircraft to transport Teke to clinic visits. Many, many thanks are extended to Teke's dedicated caregivers, Jerry Reed and Connie Clark. The family expresses its heartfelt thanks to the staff at 4 West Memorial and Hubbard House. Your care was sincerely appreciated. Women & Children's Surgery friends, your support cannot be measured. Much love is extended to Donna Slayton, Steve McCormick, Sandy Brannin, and Julie Haddy. You are the best! The service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the Baptist Temple, Charleston, with the Rev. Archie Snedegar officiating. Burial will follow at Boone Memorial Park, Madison. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at the church. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
