Description	:	COLUMBIANA - Winifred L. Martin, 87, of 422 Fairfield Ave. Columbiana, passed away at 11:24 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Salem Community Hospital. Winifred was born in the house where she had currently resided on May 12, 1923, the daughter of J. Ellsworth and Ada I. Rupert Miller. Mrs. Martin was a milk tester in l940 for Tech Dairy of Youngstown which later became Borden Dairy. From 1960-1970 she was the meter reader for Columbiana. From 1962-1966 she also managed J.E. Martin, 87, of 422 Fairfield Ave. Columbiana, passed away at 11:24 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Salem Community Hospital. Winifred was born in the house where she had currently resided on May 12, 1923, the daughter of J. Ellsworth and Ada I. Rupert Miller. Mrs. Martin was a milk tester in l940 for Tech Dairy of Youngstown which later became Borden Dairy. From 1960-1970 she was the meter reader for Columbiana. From 1962-1966 she also managed J.E. Miller orchard in Columbiana and she was secretary for her sister, Dr. Irene Houk. Winifred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana where she was very active. She was past deacon of the church, a member of the bell choir and a youth group leader. She graduated from Columbiana High School in 1942. Winifred loved making brooms, roller skating, family parties, board games, animals and she loved all people. She also had worked at the information booth at the Canfield Fair for many years. Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Wilbur H. Martin, whom she married January 23, 1944. Other survivors include two daughters DeErla (Ed) Schaefer, Sr. of Greenford and Mrs. Louise Best of Columbiana; a son Robert (Judy) Martin of Columbiana; a sister Dr. Irene Houk of Poland; seven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Winifred was preceded in death by a brother Willis Miller, Sr. . Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana with Rev. Scott Parker officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church. Family suggests that material tributes be made to the Board of Deacons First Presbyterian Church 28 E. Park Ave. Columbiana, Ohio 44408. 6/6/10 For years they demonstrated "the old broom making machine" at the annual Shaker Woods Festival - Columbiana O. During most of her married life, Winnie and Wilbur Martin lived on a century old 40 acre farm located on State Rt 14. When they decided to leave, the farm and some contents sold at auction about 2005. The old brick farmhouse no longer stands as of 2010. May 2012 - daughter Louise Martin Best has provided a large collection of photographs and documents to be added to memorials from her mother's collection and Miss Lulu Bierman. We are grateful for her generosity. They pertain to Rupert-Bierman-Yarian names. Aug 20, 2012 - interview with Irene Miller Houk. She confirmed this was her on Christmas Card with sled - taken at home located at 422 Fairfield Ave - house built in 1920. She recalls the sled, being pulled by her half brother Willis Sr, with mother Ada and father Josiah Ellsworth Miller. They agreed at time it was a nice photo and decided to make it into a Christmas Card.
