Born March 20, 1896 in Story County near Gilbert, she graduated from high school and attended Highland Park College and Salina Business College in Salina, Kan. She and her husband lived in the Shipley area until 1960 when they moved to Ames. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the First United Methodist Church and WSCS of the church. She belonged to the Ames Woman's Club and the Art and Bowling Divisions of that club. She also belonged to a Canasta Club and The Golden Agers. Mrs. Nelson had been active in many community organizations and was a 4-H leader from 1931 until 1940. Survivors include: a son, Vernon W. of Marengo; four daughters, Mrs. Virginia martin of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Shirley Noland of Corydon, Mrs. Anita Sesker, Route 2, and Mrs. Connie Crouse of Ankeny; a brother Leslie Wills, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Elva Sharer of Kelso, Wash. and 22 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville F. Nelson in 1966. The body will lie in state at Adams Funeral Home until noon Thursday. A memorial has been established. Contributions will be donated to Easter Seals and the Heart Fund.
