WINIFRED WILLIAMS This who came from a distance to attend the funeral of Mrs. Winifred Williams of Corning, former teacher in the Villisca Schools, which was held here Wednesday afternoon of last week in the Presbyterian Church, included Mr. and MRs. C. W. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Winslow of Ida Grove, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perry of Des Moines. Winifred Maude Selser, daughter of Henry Peter Selser and Edna Gabrella Yohe, was born March 17, 1876 in Morning Sun, Iowa and died November 27, 1939 in Corning, Adams, Iowa, aged 83 years, 8 months, and 10 days. The family moved to Montgomery County when she was five years old, and she had her public school work in Red Oak. She received her degree from Iowa State Teacher’s college in 1902. She went to Ouray, Colorado and taught for two years, but the climate did not agree with her and she came to Montgomery County, spending the remainder of her 30 years teaching in Red Oak and Villisca. She was a much loved teacher in the Villisca schools for 17 years and retired last year because of ill health She married William Henry Williams on December 25, 1907 in Red Oak, Iowa, who preceded her in detain 1925. One son, Wilfred died a number of years ago. She is survived by no immediate relatives, except one daughter, Mrs. LaVerne Parker of Corning and a brother, Ray Selser of Elliott. Mrs. William was an unusually successful teacher. Her keen interest in the young, her sympathy and understanding of Youth’s problems made her an instructor of unusual efficiency and charm.
