She was born Dec. 16, 1906, to Elmer and Edith (Lindquist) Smith, at Dyer Hill. She attended Knemeyer School near there. She married Walter McLean on July 1, 1925, at Omak. They lived at the family homestead, a cattle and wheat ranch, until 1943, when they moved to East Wenatchee. They moved to Mansfield in 1960 and lived there until retiring in 1980. She married George Venneberg in 1988 at Chelan. Mrs. Venneberg was a charter member of the Eastmont Presbyterian Church. She was active in Amaranth and past matron of Harmony Chapter No. 56, Order of the Easter Star. She was a 60-year member of the Grange, active in the East Wenatchee and Mansfield granges, and at the state level. She is survived by her husband of Chelan; a son, Alex McLean of Mansfield; two daughters, Grace Lester of Wenatchee and Mae Hamilton of Leavenworth; a stepson, Martin Venneberg of Chelan; a stepdaughter, Linda Piro of Chelan, two brothers, Sylvan Smith of Electric City and Warren Douglas of Dallas, Texas; four sisters, Edna Jameson of La Pine, Or., Vera Hull of Omak, Norma Sulis of Port Townsend and Anna Lowe of Friday Harbor; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1982, a brother and two sisters. Funeral services conducted at 10:00 am, Friday morning, Jan. 21, 1994 in the First Presbyterian Church in Wenatchee. Rev. Bob Shepard officiated. If desired, memorials may be made to the Chelan Hospital Fund in Winnie's name. Concluding services and interment in the Bridgeport City Cemetery. Arrangements by the Waterville Funeral Home.
