Pleasant. Born Dec. 18, 1918, in New London, he was the son of William Thomas and Carrie Martin Brown. He married Lucille Kendall Aug. 29, 1936, in Muscatine. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army for 18 months, part of which was spent in Germany. He worked for a brother, Wilbur Brown, in the used car repair business for 10 years. He was employed at the Army Ammunition Plant for two years and operated a car repair business at home for about two years. He then was employed by the Ford dealership in New London for Winebrenner Motors and Hines Motors, until 1977 when he was injured when a truck crashed through the building where he was working. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Donna Dupree and Jeannette Martin, both of New London, and Coleen Thornton, Danville; one sister, Margaret Carson, Davenport; one brother, Wilbur P. Brown, New London; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. There will be no family visitation at the Elliot Chapel in New London. The graveside service for Mr. Brown will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brooks cemetery, near New London, with Mr. Wesley Kendall officiating. A memorial has been established for Brooks Cemetery.
