Description	:	BOULDER, Colo. — Yale Roy Nelson, 95, of Boulder died Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Boulder. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Broomfield. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon, Neb. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Gibbon is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon, Neb. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Gibbon is in charge of the arrangements. He was born Oct. 10, 1918, on a farm near Edgar in Clay County, Neb., to Arthur Nelson and Francis Cavett. He married Jean Nutter. She preceded him in death. Survivors include his children, Robert, Steven, Thomas and Marilyn, all of the Broomfield area; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Yale grew up on a farm near Verona, Neb. After attending high school at Clay Center, Neb., he attended Hastings (Neb.) College. In his senior year he entered into a flight training program and completed it in June 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was retained in that service as a flight instructor. He and his college sweetheart, Jean Nutter, were married that year. In 1944 with the war winding down, Yale left active military service in July 1945 and began work with United Airlines. Yale was promoted to line captain in 1947. In addition, he served in several other jobs with UAL including first officer, flight instructor, flight simulator instructor and test pilot. During his time with United, Yale visited many of the world's major airlines assisting with their training and operational problems. He retired in 1980 after almost 37 years with United. In addition to work, Yale's lifelong interests were family, music, antique car restoration, antique furniture restoration, clock building and genealogy. Yale and Jean moved to Broomfield in 1958 and raised four children: Robert, Steven, Thomas and Marilyn. He inspired and supported his family and all who knew him. He was loved and will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
