Elrod and Janie Opal Hunter Elrod in Edgerton, KS. She grew up in the Antioch Community, attended school in Antioch and Edgerton, KS. She married Richard R. Bardwell on April 16, 1960 in Harrisonville, MO. They lived in Gardner and then moved to the Antioch community in 1991. He passed away in 2005. Zelma was a nurse's aide at the Reece Hospital in Gardner. She was a care giver to many home bound friends. Zelma and Richard also owned and operated the Maytag Laundromat in Gardner from 1964-1990. She loved to quilt and won many ribbons at the Johnson County Fair. She also loved camping and motorcycling and enjoyed watching birds and wildlife. She was preceded by her parents, James Elrod and Janie Elrod McIntire, her husband Richard, and foster daughter, Janet Olson Poe. She is survived by sons James W. Elrod and wife Deborah and Jeffrey R. Bardwell and wife Jo, all of Spring Hill; step-daughters Janet England of Watsonville, CA and Jane Rankin of Seattle, WA; siblings Vera Kennedy of Lawrence, KS, Roy Elrod of Wellsville, KS, and Janice Dye of Edgerton, KS; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
