Mr. Reed has been here for some time and was well respected by all. He was an earnest Christian and for many years a member of the Presbyterian church. He died from the effects of a fall received about a week previous to his death. Zephaniah married Elizabeth Grundy on April 4, 1833 In Pennsylvania. And to that union eight children were born. John J. 1834 in Pennsylvania; Richard Edward W. 1836 in Maryland; Missouri H. 1838 in Maryland; the rest were born in Indiana Margaret P. 1841; Indiana Davis 1843; Samuel Grundy 1845; Zachariah abt. 1849 and Elizabeth H. abt. 1851. Obituary from Brookville, IN Newspaper June 6, 1876 - Brookville American Died near Abilene, Kansas on the 19 th day of May last, Mr. Zephaniah B. Reed age seventy years and seven months. Mr. Reed, was a native of Ohio, but lived several years near Philadelphia, prior to his removal to this place where he resided until within a few years where he removed to the place where he died. Mr. Reed was well known in this place as an industrious and well-to-do citizen and mechanic, and as such was esteemed,. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The cause of his death is reported to have been, that he was rolling corn, when the seat of the roller broke down, and by the fall he was bruised but only slightly, but which afterward became erysipelatory and death ensued in a few hours. ******************************** I have found no record of Zephaniah ever living in Ohio, he was born in Pennsylvania and that is where he married Elizabeth Grundy and their first son was born, second son was born in Maryland and after that all records show them living in Brookville, IN until moving to Abilene, KS between 1870 & 1875. sth
