Owens - Zorelda Jane Witt was born October 22, 1860, in Buchanan County, Missouri and departed this life Saturday evening at 5:20, Febr. 11, 1928 at her home near Siam, Iowa, at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 20 days. She was one of a family of three children, consisting of two girls and one boy, all of whom have passed away with the exception of the brother, James Witt, of Elkcreek, Mo. who was unable to be at her funeral. Zorelda Jane Witt was united in marriage to Martin Cole Owens, January 9, 1879, at Maryville, Mo. They moved from there to Taylor County, Iowa 23 years ago. To this union were born eleven children, six of whom are living, two girls and three boys having proceeded her in death. Those surviving to mourn her going is the husband and daughters, Mrs. Jessie Albright of Atlantic, Kansas; Mrs. Nora Fuller of Casper, Wyoming; and Mrs. Lola Morehouse, of Hopkins , Mo., and the sons Roy of Falls City, Nebraska; Ed, of Hopkins, Mo., and Neil of Braddyville, Iowa. All the surviving children were present at the funeral to pay the last tribute to their deceased mother, except one daughter, Mrs. Nora Fuller, of Casper, Wyo. who was unable to be here. Also she leaves to mourn her going, 26 grandchildren and many distant relatives and a host of lifetime friends Mrs. Owens united with the Centenial So. Methodist church in Nodaway County, Mo., in 1883, at the age of 23 years. From this early age she has continued a faithful and devout member of the church. She transferred her membership to the High Prairie Methodist church and had held her membership to the time of her departure. Mrs. Owens having been converted at an early age in life has lived a life of Christian influence, which will be long remembered by all who knew her. She had been failing in health for a period of years, but through all her sufferings and afflictions she bore it bravely with the patience of one like unto Christ. It was but a few weeks ago that on her bed of affliction she quoted these words of Paul, "For me to live it, Christ; for me to die is gain." In her 49 years of married life she became so familiar with the scripture of the Word of God that she could turn to almost any portion of scripture she so desired. In her constant walk with Christ, she developed her Christian graces and became a saint ready for the time of harvest and as the product was now matured and ready for heaven, Christ has saw fit to take her unto himself. All her parting words was to the end "Meet me over there." Though unable to utter a word the last day of her stay on earth, yet at the time of her departure she was asked by her companion, "Do you know me" and her answer came, "Yes". The children can but rise up and call her blessed and say; "Heaven's gain is our loss."
