Description	:	The first known survey of this cemetery was done by noted genealogist Dr. Allan E. Marble on August 21, 1972. Per his usual procedure, he did not give the cemetery a name but assigned it an identifying number. For this cemetery, the number was 120. He recorded the location as Upper Granville. At a later date, Genweb volunteers transcribed Dr. Marble's survey notes and made them available online at Rootsweb. At that time, the volunteers named it “Anderson Cemetery” but, in the cemetery index, they listed the name simply as “Anderson”. They cited the location as Upper Granville. ... At that time, the volunteers named it “Anderson Cemetery” but, in the cemetery index, they listed the name simply as “Anderson”. They cited the location as Upper Granville. Dr. Marble transcribed 2 headstones containing 3 inscriptions (one with a significant error in the given name and gender). The oldest identifiable stone is from 1854. His survey includes this notation: “A nearby resident, Mr. Horton, told me that he remembers that at least 6 stones stood in this cemetery. I could only find the two listed above in the very heavy bushes.” In October 2020, dedicated cemetery hunter, Steve Skafte, cleared this cemetery of overgrowth, righted the parents’ spire, and unearthed two headstones of children not surveyed by Dr. Marble. It was discovered that one of the headstones was for a son named Alfred, whose date of death matched exactly the date recorded by Dr. Marble for a daughter named Clarissa. This appears to be one of Dr. Marble’s rare transcription errors. No headstone has been found for a daughter named Clarissa, which should have been relatively easy to locate if Dr. Marble could find it in heavy brush. The conclusion was reached that his transcription should have cited the name as Alfred, a son, who is buried in this cemetery according to his newly discovered headstone. Unfortunately, Rootsweb provides no way to correct this error on the web page for this cemetery. In addition, Steve also found three footstones bearing no names, just initials. Two of them show “A. A. A.” and are likely to be those of siblings Alfred Augustus Anderson and his sister, Anna Augusta Anderson. The third stone is mostly illegible but is believed to belong to a son named John W. Anderson, age 13, whose obituary states that he is buried in this cemetery. DIRECTIONS: The cemetery is located on the south side of Highway 1, on private land owned by Civic #8046. Permission must be given at the house before visiting.
