Description	:	Colonists were buried in the Chapel Field from the 1630s until about 1730. Archeological surveys indicate that the graves of more than 400 of the founders of Maryland, probably including Governor Leonard Calvert, are located in the cemetery. Many of the graves show evidence of wooden markers, which was a common practice in England in the 17th century. Some examples of these wooden markers have been placed in the cemetery.
