Description : Combermere Abbey was founded in 1133 by Hugh de Malbanc, 2nd baron of Wich Malbank, and Lord of Nantwich, as a Cistercian monastery. The original abbey, with very few people, was endowed with 22,000 acres (89 km²) including part of Nantwich, a chapel in Nantwich as well as the church at Acton (c.49 people.) It encompress one quarter of the land in Nantwich, ploughland and common land in Acton, Ravensmoor and Alvaston areas.
