Description | : | Warriston Cemetery is accessed from a different site to Warriston Crematorium. Opened in 1843, the cemetery was designed by Edinburgh architect, David Cousin. It was the first garden cemetery in Edinburgh and proved a model for several other Scottish cemeteries. In private ownership until 1994, the cemetery was bought by City of Edinburgh Council. Parts of the cemetery are heavily overgrown but restoration has begun. The Edinburgh Cemetery Company expanded their business in 1929 into the then, new field of cremation, converting East Warriston House into Warriston Crematorium on an adjacent site to the east.
