Sterling Died On Sunday After Long Illness; Buried On Tuesday Aaron Travis Sterling passed away at his home on Main street at an early hour on Sunday morning, at the age of sixty. He had been ill for the past several years. Mr. Sterling was a son of the late Cornelius and Mary Sterling of this city, and will be remembered for his musical ability. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1912 until 1919, and for a number of years was a member if the U.S. Marine Band. Locally, he was highly regarded as a fine celloist, and thrilled many an audience in local entertainment circles and as a member of the church orchestra. He was also a painter of some talent. Mr. Sterling married Miss Ruth G. Stevenson of this city, and from that union, one daughter was born. She is Mrs. Russell (Polly) Swift of this city. Besides his wife, and daughter, he is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Martha Loockerman, Crisfield, and Mrs. Ernest Hallberg, who resides in Florida. Funeral services were held from his late home on Tuesday, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Elmer L. Bennett, and the Rev. Melvin E. Wheatley. Stanley L. Cochrane Post American Legion, of which he was one of its first members, furnished guard and acted as pall bearers, as well as gave military ritualistic service at the graveside.
