She died at her home in Mahaska county, Iowa, October 23, 1918, aged 63 years and 25 days. She came to America with her parents in the year 1872, and landed at Pella. Iowa, April 27. Feb. 19, 1876, she was married to Henry Ver Ploegh, who proceeded her to the better land, Sept 10, 1916.. To this union, were born twelve children, of whom two died in infancy... Read More	Extracted Saturday Globe Oskaloosa Iowa VER PLOEGH-Artie Van Arkel was born in the Netherlands, Sept. 28, 1855, and was the daughter of John(Jan) and Julia(Judich)Van Arkel. She died at her home in Mahaska county, Iowa, October 23, 1918, aged 63 years and 25 days. She came to America with her parents in the year 1872, and landed at Pella. Iowa, April 27. Feb. 19, 1876, she was married to Henry Ver Ploegh, who proceeded her to the better land, Sept 10, 1916.. To this union, were born twelve children, of whom two died in infancy and two married daughters died each leaving two small children. The remaining eight children, three sons and five daughters were all permitted to be at her bedside at the time of her departure, with the exception of one son, James Lester Ver Ploegh, who was serving his country in France. This grieved her very much, but she patiently bore her grief and gave her son to the country which she had adopted. She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, five daughters, one step-son, one step-daughter, and seventeen grandchildren, of whom one grandson, John Henry Eveland is stationed at Camp Pike, Arkansas. Also four sisters and four brother. Mrs. Ver Ploegh has been a sufferer from diabetes for the past nine years and was obliged to stay at home most of the time. She was a great lover of nature and all the beauties with which God has ladened this earth for us. Her special pleasure during her last days was the company of her children and grandchildren. She was a mother we will all miss. She raised two step children and two grandchildren, and always had her heart and home open to a motherless child. Toward the last she expressed her wish to go to the home beyond, where her suffering and sorrow would all end. May she rest in peace.
