The lot consists of the Albert Willoughby homestead; John Hays Thompson premises; the Abel Mitchell homestead, this includes 3 houses: the Garland Smith farm, 60 acres; land at the junction of Squam river with Pemigewasset, 30 acres; the Shaw pasture in New Hampton, ½ mile from Ashland, 40 acres; the Shaw intervale, on the toll-bridge road, 75 acres — to be sold in lots as wanted; a 5-acre lot in Bridgewater. Added by Beverly: In the 1870 census Abel and son Daniel resided in Bridgewater along with Abel's 2nd wife Elizabeth. Able was a farmer and Daniel worked in the woolen mill in Ashland. Next door was his father Michael Mitchell and wife Mary B., ages 80 and 63 and likely a sibling Charles Mitchell and wife Betsey and family, Charles being 66. When the next census rolled around, 1880, Abel and Elizabeth had moved to Ashland NH and he was farming. Abel married Elizabeth Lapham Hill on Dec 20, 1859 in Plymouth NH. He was 37 and widowed and she was 22, first marriage, daughter of Barker and Mary Hill. I don't believe they had children who lived to adulthood although they did have a son who died as a baby born in 1862. Abel died at age 68, 7 mos and 14 days from pyaemia (blood poisoning) from abscess. His father Michael had been born Bridgwater NH and mother Rebecca (Nutting) in Westoford Mass. Elizabeth died in 1923 at age 86 and was buried with her family in the Hill lot in Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth according to her death certificate.
