This is true in the sad death of Abner Teander, who was young, healthy and robust and yet when he became afflicted with pneumonia following an attack of the influenza he succumbed to the ravages of the disease. Abner Carl Teander was born on a farm south of Stratford December 29, 1899 and passed away at the Eleanor Moore Hospital in Boone, November 3, 1918, at the age of 18 years, 10 months and 4 days. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Teander and moved with his parents into Stratford when but a small boy and has since resided here with them. He leaves to mourn his untimely passing his father and mother, one sister, Mrs. Lester Poulson of Stratford; one brother, Everett Teander of Stratford, besides many hosts of saddened friends. Abner was a dutiful and obedient son, a mother's boy, who loved his parents with undying devotion. He was a general favorite among those of his age with whom he associated and won his way into their hearts by his jolly and generous nature. His few years on earth were spent in and about Stratford and here he lived childhood's happy days and was just budding into fine young manhood when he was called by his Maker. Life and death are a great mystery to us all on earth but not to our Maker. He knows why He has plucked this young life from among us just when it gave great promise to us and so in our bereavement we must resign ourselves to His will even though we do not understand. Life is a journey which we begin at birth and end at death. We come not nor go not of our own volition but by the choice of a mightier power. We live, our travels on earth are pleasant or fraught with trials and suddenly a mysterious power calls and our travels are over and we are gone home. Abner's last words to his mother before going to the hospital were that he was ready to go if his Master called him. The passing of this young man is sad indeed to the entire community and more so to his bereaved parents, sister and brother. The community extends condolences to them. Funeral services were held in the front yard of the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the remains laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery.
