Hahn entered into the sleep that knows no earthly waking at his home, 2605 Union avenue, Altoona, Thursday morning at 7:00 o’clock. Of the twenty-eight presidents of the United States, Mr. Hahn lived during the several administrations from John Quincy Adams to Woodrow Wilson included or during the administration of the entire number of presidents excepting five. Abram E. Hahn was born in Carroll county, Maryland, on October 3, 1827, and during half of his long life, he made his home in the vicinity of his birth. He lived not far from Gettysburg where southern chivalry locked arms with northern bravery in a three days struggle in the darkest period of the Civil war. With his son, A. J. Hahn, he visited the field of carnage on the Sunday following the eventful battle, and that son has all the vivid recollections that a boy in his teens could have concerning ghastly scenes on the near Round Top and Devil’s Den. On October 3, 1846, Mr. Hahn was joined in holy wedlock to Miss Mary Jane Myerly, in Carroll county, Maryland. To this union were born four children; three of whom survive. The mother of this family died in December of 1874, and Mr. Hahn married two years later to Mrs. Annie McFarland. During the sixties Mr. Hahn moved his family to Philipsburg where he followed carpentering and painting until in recent years he made his home on Union avenue in Altoona. When in Maryland he was a member of the Lutheran church, and on moving to Phillipsburg, where at that time there was no church of his chosen denomination, he joined the Methodist Episcopal church. In this faith he died; he was the last survivor of his family. Surviving his death are his wife and the following children: A. J. Hahn and C. C. Hahn, of Tyrone; Mrs. C. L. Dennis, of Williamsport; also one step-son, William McFarland. Surviving also are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body was brought to Tyrone Friday evening to the home of A. J. Hahn, 1313 Pennsylvania avenue. Funeral services were conducted at this home on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. W. W. Hartman, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church officiating.
