By 1850, Abraham and Cynthia and their four children were living in Penn Twp, Cass Co., Michigan. In his family history, Crayton H. Sigerfoos provides the following information about his father: Abraham R. Sigerfoos was the first blacksmith in the village of Vandalia, Michigan. By 1850, Abraham and Cynthia and their four children were living in Penn Twp, Cass Co., Michigan. In his family history, Crayton H. Sigerfoos provides the following information about his father: Abraham R. Sigerfoos was the first blacksmith in the village of Vandalia, Michigan. About the year 1852, Abraham went to Michigan, but returned to Cass Co., Michigan about 1859. In the fall of 1861, Abraham enlisted in the First Michigan Cavalry, Company M, and served as company blacksmith until the end of the war. After the war, he resided in Bureau County, Illinois until the fall of 1876, when he took up residence in Cassopolis, Cass Co., Michigan with his son Crayton Sigerfoos, and where he died on 6 Oct 1880. Abraham is buried not too far from the grave of his wife Cynthia. Cynthia’s grave is next to that of her brother, Josiah Osborn. Abraham’s grave has a Civil War star. All are buried in the old East family cemetery, now known as the Birch Creek Cemetery, ch. Calvery.
