Read More	Husband of Nancy Jane Mathis. Son of Isaiah Umbenhower and Matilda Hays OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, May 25, 1944 A. Y. UMBENHOWER Abraham Umbenhower, son of Isaiah and Matilda Umbenhower, was born in Greene county, Illinois on Sept. 25, 1864, and passed away at his home in Chariton, Iowa, on May 20, 1944, after a lingering illness, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 25 days. He moved to Iowa in October, 1864. His mother passed away on their way to Iowa when he was an infant of six weeks old. He lived near Marysville, Iowa for a few years, spending the remaining years of his life in Marion and Lucas counties, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Nancy Jane Mathis on Sept. 13, 1884, at Chariton, Iowa. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. Bertha McMannis, of near Russell, Ia.; Jess L. Umbenhower and Mrs. Ora Nace, of Chariton; and Mrs. Flossie Baker, of Bradley Beach, New Jersey, all living and with him during his last illness. Surviving him besides his wife and four children are six grandchildren, Nada Umbenhower, of Chariton; Kermit Umbenhower, of Camp Knox, Tenn.; Quentin Umbenhower, of the Virgin Islands, in the service; Mrs. Blanche Etter, of near Russell; Donald Gillette, of Hondo, Texas, in the service; Merna Nace, of Chariton; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, W. A. Umbenhower, of Millerton, Iowa. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He was converted at the age of 20 years and united with the Christian Union church in Antioch, later he transferred his membership to the Church of the Nazarene and lived a faithful sanctified life. His last testimony was that they were coming for him and that he was ready to go. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. G. W. Henriksen, were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Church of the Nazarene, and burial was in the Coal Glen cemetery. Selections were sung by H. K. Bentley of Flint, Mich., and a trio composed of Lon Keeney, Mrs. Porter Smyth and Mrs. Ben Hamilton. Mrs. Bentley was the pianist. Pallbearers were Harley Keeney, T. J.
