Carpenter, a resident of the Holyoke community most of her life, passed away Thursday night, November 16, at Presbyterian hospital in Denver following an extended illness. She was 78 years of age. Funeral services were conduced at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 20, at the Holyoke Baptist church. Officiating minister was Rev. W.C. Garberson of Denver, assisted by Rev. George Rieth, pastor of the local church. Rev. Garberson, a lifelong friend of Miss Carpenter, was pastor of the Holyoke Baptist church from 1910 until 1912. George Rieth, pastor of the local church. Rev. Garberson, a lifelong friend of Miss Carpenter, was pastor of the Holyoke Baptist church from 1910 until 1912. Though advance in age and now retired, Rev. Garberson continues active, particularly in church activities. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park, with the Lewis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The oldest of 10 children of H. L. and Harriet Carpenter, Ada Frances Carpenter was born April 11, 1889, at Ragan, Nebraska. While still a small child she moved with her parents to a homestead eight miles southeast of Holyoke. She became a member of the Holyoke Baptist church at an early age and was active in church work most of her life. Miss Carpenter owned and operated the A.C. Hotel in Holyoke for a number of years before moving to Denver a few years ago. Survivors include four sisters, Dora, Mrs. Clarence Vernon, Wheatland, Wyoming, Nannie, Mrs. Les Augenbaugh, Brighton, Colorado, and Carrie, Mrs. John Baskins, and Etta, Mrs. Fred Peterson, both of Holyoke; three brothers, Clarence Carpenter, Powell, Wyoming and Arthur and Albert Carpenter, both of Holyoke; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding Miss Carpenter in death were her parents and two sisters, Edith, Mrs. Cecil Critchlow, and Elnora, Mrs. George Sorensen. Holyoke Enterprise November 23, 1967 (Thanks to Vicki Conklin)
