CARPENTER Pioneer Resident of Phillips County Dies Following Short Illness Funeral services were conducted in Holyoke Sunday afternoon for H.L. Carpenter, pioneer resident of Phillips County, who died at 7:15 o'clock Thursday evening at his home, following a short illness of pneumonia and complications. At the time of his death he was 78 years, 10 months and 28 days old. Prayer was read at 1:45 o'clock at the Colver Brothers Funeral Home and service was held at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Clare J. Hayes, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. A male quartet composed of Dr. P.S. Struble, G. L. Bereman, Walter G. Sprick and Earl Bledsoe sang with Mrs. P.S. Struble playing the piano accompaniments. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery. Pallbearers were William Scheneman, D.H. Eckard, John O. Thomas, Charles Peters, Ed Brandes and E. Lester. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Miss Ada Carpenter of Denver, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence C. Carpenter and children of Manville, Wyoming. Hannibal Lincoln Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marpel Carpenter, was born January 9, 1862 at Rome, Ohio. He was married to Miss Harriett Kitchel September 11, 1887, the ceremony being performed in Harlan County in Nebraska. Following their marriage, they resided in Nebraska six years, moving to Phillips County in 1893 and locating on a homestead east of Holyoke. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter retired from active farm life 21 years ago and moved to Holyoke where they established their home. The deceased was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Harriett Carpenter of Holyoke; six daughters, Mrs. Dora Vernon, Mrs. Carrie Kinsey and Mrs. Etta Peterson of Holyoke, Mrs. Elnora Walts of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Miss Ada Carpenter of Denver, and Mrs. Nannie Aughenbaugh of Longview, Alberta, Canada; three sons, Albert and Arthur Carpenter of Holyoke and Clarence M. Carpenter of Manville, Wyoming; 23 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, who resides in Oregon. One daughter, Mrs. Edith Critchlow preceded him in death, her death having occurred October 8.
