Description	:	Ada Ruth Soderberg Martin,daughter of Louis and Ida Town Soderberg, was born on a farm near Canby, Iowa on September 23,1903. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle, Iowa on August 24,1994 at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 1 day. Ruth received her early education in the Adair County Public Schools and graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1921. She was her class valedictorian and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Iowa where she graduated with degrees in English, History, and Latin. She later did graduate work at both... Read More	Ada Ruth Soderberg Martin,daughter of Louis and Ida Town Soderberg, was born on a farm near Canby, Iowa on September 23,1903. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle, Iowa on August 24,1994 at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 1 day. Ruth received her early education in the Adair County Public Schools and graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1921. She was her class valedictorian and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Iowa where she graduated with degrees in English, History, and Latin. She later did graduate work at both the University of Iowa and Drake. Ruth's life was education and until her later years, when she was no longer able, she had a constant quest for learning. She was an avid sports fan. She taught for many years in the Fontanelle Public Schools. She was very active in community affairs and served on the Library Board as charter board member. She was a 60 year member of the Cora Rebekah Lodge No. 143 and was active in Federated Garden Club and other community activities. She was a leader in Junior Garden and Cub Scouts. Her true love was her church. She joined the Methodist church at an early age,a life-long member,and she always participated actively serving as a member of the church board, Sunday School Superintendent, playing an active role in Women's society, Circle, and other volunteer areas. On June 3,1934,she married Clarence F. Martin at the Methodist parsonage in Greenfield, Iowa. They spent 46 1/2 years together. They had one son, Calvin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1981;brother, John Soderberg;sister, Esther Welker. She is survived by her son, Calvin(Karen), grandchildren, Christi and Clint;sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Rodney Bird.
