Description	:	Adam Halboth's parents were Johann George Halboth and Katharine Margaret Pohl. They were married in 1827 in Schmolz. Katharine was the daughter of Peter Pohl and Christina Bauer, respected farmers in Beikheim. Johann George and Katharine farmed in her home village of Beikheim where they had six children. Katharine was the daughter of Peter Pohl and Christina Bauer, respected farmers in Beikheim. Johann George and Katharine farmed in her home village of Beikheim where they had six children. Their daughter Eva and son George died in infancy. Johann George became enthralled with the prospect of moving to the United States. His wife's cousin, Gabriel Pohl had emigrated to Illinois in 1845. Gabriel wrote that the land in Illinois was fertile, bountiful and reasonable. In 1847, Johann George was determined to emigrate his family to America. Katharine, however would not leave her roots in Beikheim. As a result, Johann George emigrated with the older children; Ann Margaret, Adam and Christiana. Katherine remained in Beikheim with their young son John Nicolas. Johann George hoped they would emigate at a later time. Their Atlantic journey was perilous. There was a terrible storm that struck mid ocean. The savage winds snapped the sailing vessel's main mast in two. After the storm, the ship limped along its westward course. After six weeks at sea, they arrived at New York harbor. The Halboths immediately headed west to Perkins Grove, LaMoille, Illinois where cousin Gabriel was living. Soon after settling in Illinois, Ann Margaret married John Englehart on December 21, 1847 in Princeton, Bureau, Illinois. Katherine, died in Beikheim the day before Ann Margaret's wedding. After receiving the news of his wife's death, Johann George returned to Beikheim. Before he left Illinois, he gave his son Adam a sum of money to invest in a family homestead if the opportunity arose. Adam purchased land in LaMoille Township. He later sold the La Moille land and bought 160 acres on February 28, 1853 in Lee township An additional parcel of 80 acres in Lee township was purchased on February 1, 1868, Adam married Barbara Haefner, daughter of Peter Haefner and Christina Appel on October 20, 1853 in Dixon, Lee County Illinois. In 1861, Adam and Barbara donated a corner piece of land for the construction of a one-room schoolhouse, called Zinke School. They farmed in Lee and Bureau counties until 1885. They removed to Clinton township, Sac, Iowa and purchased land. They also farmed in Richland township before moving into Odebolt. They were the parents of ten children: Adam Lewis 1855-1941; Frederick 1857-1929; Anton 1859-1884; Henrietta D 1861-1948; Josephine D 1864-1936; Barbara Louisa 1867-1868; John Julius 1869-1871; Nicolas Julius 1872-1948; Rosina Christina 1873-1955; and Benjamin Ernest 1875-1956, all born in Brooklyn township. Sac City Sun 1901 The Chronicle states that Adam Halboth, a respected citizen of Odebolt, died Mar 28, 1901 at his home, after a long illness with stomach trouble. He was born in Bavaria June 11, 1830 and emigrated to America in 1849 (sic 1847), locating in Bureau county, Illinois. About four years later, he moved to Lee county, Illinois and in 1853 he married Barbara Haefner at Dixon. In 1885, he came to this county, locating on a farm near Odebolt and a few years later moved to town. He was the father of ten children, seven of whom are living. Two children died in infancy and one at the age of 24. The survivors are; Louis, Frederick, Julius, Benjamin, Mrs. Henrietta Brucker, Mrs. Josephine Schnuckel and Mrs. Rosa Volz. He leaves also a wife, 27 grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the residence by Rev Dirk Siemsen.
