Read More	Born at 11:25 p.m. per the family Bible OBITUARY PIONEER SUMMONED At the age of eight years she came with her parents to Gibbons, Nebraska. After a short time they moved to Omaha-a few years later returned to Gibbons. She was educated in Gibbon and Omaha schools, finishing her education in Gibbon Seminary. On January 27th, 1887 she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Rathbun of Downs, Kansas. To this union five children were born. Two sons preceded her in death-Harry, aged 1 year and N.C. Rathbun at the age of 17. In November 1933 Mrs. Rathbun suffered a paralytic stroke, rendering her right side helpless. At the same time she lost her power of speech, never regaining the use of either. All during the months of her illness she was patient, having a smile for everyone. Everything that loving hands could do was done for her. Mr. & Mrs. Rathbun moved to Downs, in July, 1915, making it their home ever since. Mrs. Rathbun united with the Presbyterian Church at Gibbon, Nebraska, transferring her membership to the Downs Congregational church, remaining active and faithful. Her noble character, Christian influence, and helpfulness in the community will ever remain as an inspiration in the memory and hearts of her loved ones, her neighbors and friends. Especially will she be missed by her co-workers in the Keystone Bible class. Her faithful, loving service will never be forgotten. She leaves to mourn her loss: her devoted husband, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Flowers, Buena Vista, Colorado; Mrs. Rhea Armsbury of Independence, Kansas; one son, John P. Rathbun of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Cora Overton, Hastings, Nebraska; three brothers, H.B. and J.N. Ashburn, Gibbon, Nebr.; and A.A. Ashburn, Spokane, Washington; thirteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, besides a host of friends. "The stars come nightly to the sky; The tidal wave unto the sea: Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high, Can keep my own away from me." Funeral services were conducted at the Congregational Church on Sunday afternoon by Rev. Archie Toothaker. Music was furnished by Mrs. O.F. Shearer, pianist, and songs by Mrs. Magaw, Mrs. Alfred Wilson, Mrs. Robert Knight, Mrs. Ross Gebhart, and Mrs. Creed Dillon. Burial was in Gibbon, Nebraska, Monday, where services were also held. ~~~~~ Mrs. Addie Rathbun Mrs. Addie Rathbun died at her home in Downs, Kan., Wednesday, December 19, aged about seventy-one years. Funeral services were held at that place Sunday, and the remains were brought to Gibbon for burial Monday. Services, conducted by Rev. C. H. Thomas, were held at the J. N. Ashburn home Monday afternoon, and interment took place in Riverside cemetery. She was a sister of J.N. and Harry Ashburn of Gibbon, and Mrs. Cora Overton of Hastings. J. A. Rathbun, husband of the deceased, his two daughters, Mrs. Emma Flowers, Buena Vista, Colo., and Mrs. Rhea Armsbury, Independence, Kan., and two sons, John, Philadelphia, and Frank, Downs, Kan, accompanied the body to this place.
