BROOKE, Mrs. Adeline C. – At the family residence in Chelsea township, Wednesday, March 28, 1895, of pneumonia, Adeline C. Brooke, wife of Edward Brooke deceased, age 41 years. Adeline C. Warner was born in Ogle county, Illinois, in 1851. She was married to Edward Brooke of that county in January 1873 and the same year moved with her husband to Fillmore county where she resided until her death. In June 1892 her husband lost his life by a fall from a windmill tower since which time she had conduced the business of a large farm. Deceased was taken suddenly ill Sunday, March 17, while entertaining a party of neighbors and continued to grow worse till death relieved her suffering. Six children, two sons and four daughters, survive her. There also survive her, a brother, Hon. C. A. Warner of Chelsea, and a sister, Mrs. Sherwood Burr of Eugene City, Oregon. Deceased was a woman of high character and bright intellect and greatly esteemed and loved by all who knew her. She leaves her children in good circumstances. The funeral will take place from the Methodist church this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Duke Slavens officiating. The interment will be in the Geneva cemetery. (The Friday Journal 29 MAR 1895 pg 3) ALSO: Card of Thanks – The immediate relatives of Mrs. Adeline Brooke, deceased, desire to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who so kindly lent their sympathy and support during the sickness, at the time of death and at the funeral of our beloved mother and sister. Especially do we feel thankful toward the members of the Relief Corps for their presence an the noble manner in which they assisted in the conduct of the funeral ceremonies. We also wish to equally thank the members of the Degree of Honor. We feel that all endeavored to lighten our sorrow as much as possible and in return hope that should such sorrow and trouble over take them they may receive the same generous sympathy and support.
