Description	:	The relatives and friends of Ben Brooke were shocked to learn that he was drowned Sunday at a pleasure resort near Geneseo, Ill., while in swimming. The accident occurred at Riley’s camp ground on Rock River, eight miles north of Geneseo, where a party of about thirty had gone for an outing. Read More	The relatives and friends of Ben Brooke were shocked to learn that he was drowned Sunday at a pleasure resort near Geneseo, Ill., while in swimming. The accident occurred at Riley’s camp ground on Rock River, eight miles north of Geneseo, where a party of about thirty had gone for an outing. Young Brooke and a companion were swimming together near a boat and conversing with the occupants. They swam to another boat and while approaching it, bot sank and both were drowned. The exact cause is not known. The body was brought to Geneva for interment, arriving on the Burlington at 1:25 p.m. The funeral was conducted by Rev. E. M. Johnson of the Christian Church at the Methodist church at 3 o’clock the same afternoon, the event calling together a large number of people. The interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. Young Brooke was making his home at Geneseo in order to represent his sister, Mrs. A. H. Anderson, whose late husband was in the grain business at Geneseo, in partnership with E. G. Samuelson. The business was continued after Mr. Anderson’s death, and Mr. Brooke assisted in the conduct of the business. Mr. Brook was a member of the Modern Woodmen and two members of the Geneseo lodge, George Anderson and Frank Spruse, and Mr. Samuelson accompanied the remains to Geneva. Benjamin Frederick Brooke was born on his father’s homestead in Chelsea Township in this county, June 15, 1882. This was his home until he went to Illinois to look after his sister’s interest. His father was killed in 1892 by falling from a windmill tower at his home in Chelsea Township. His mother died about six years ago. His brother-in-law, A. H. Anderson, whose death caused young Brooke to make his home at Geneseo, was killed about two years ago by being thrown from a horse. Mrs. Anderson and her sister, Miss Maude Brooke have spent the past year in Omaha studying stenography. They were called here to attend the funeral.
