He attended school in District 45, commonly known as the Blaine school. After the death of his parents Lyman farmed the home place. He was married January 4, 1906, to Ella Mae Ward of Geneva. To them were born two children, a daughter Bonnie Buryl, now Mrs. Charles Harris, and a son, John Edward Brooke. Mr. Brooke became a member of the Methodist church in 1919, and he was a faithful attendant until failing health prevented him from attending. He served on the official board many years. He was also a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge No. 79, having received his 50-year pin in 1958. He was also a member of the Masonic chapter and Council in Geneva. Mr. Brooke participated in many community activities. He was a member of the Fillmore County Agricultural Society many years and had served on the board of directors. He is survived by his wife, Ella; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Brooke; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Anderson of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Maude Stringfield of Geneva. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, a brother, Benjamin, two sisters, Mrs. Cora Ashton and Belle Brooke Shires, and two grandsons, who died in infancy. Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 29, Dr. Everett E. Jackman officiating. T. D. Clarke sang "Saved By Grace" and "Going Down the Valley." He was accompanied by Mrs. Clarke. Pallbearers were Lawrence Ebbeka, Fred Fox, Derrel Hutchens, Robert Nunns Jr., Glen Robinson and Bernard Weiss. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
