Description	:	Adeline Margaretha Gerina Poertner, better known as Lena, daughter of John B. and Marie Johnson, was born January 15, 1878 at Kramer and died at the Kuntze home in Burlingame, Kansas, July 14, 1963. She was the oldest of 12 children. Mrs. Poertner was baptized on March 10, 1878 and confirmed on March 22, 1891 in St. John Lutheran Church at Kramer. On February 20, 1896 she was united in marriage to Herman Poertner at Kramer. The couple had seven children. She was the oldest of 12 children. Mrs. Poertner was baptized on March 10, 1878 and confirmed on March 22, 1891 in St. John Lutheran Church at Kramer. On February 20, 1896 she was united in marriage to Herman Poertner at Kramer. The couple had seven children. Mr. Poertner preceded her in death on August 26, 1961 and the oldest son in November 1900 at the age of 4 years. Mr. and Mrs. Poertner lived on a farm at Kramer until 1918 when they moved to Lyndon, Kansas and made their home three miles northeast of Lyndon on a farm. They retired and moved to Vassar, Kansas October 8, 1955 where they made their home until they were no longer able to live alone. On May 8, 1960 they went to live with their daughter Mrs. Walter Kuntze in Burlingame, Kansas. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Vassar, Kansas and a charter member of the Lutheran Womens League. Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Vassar, July 16, with Rev. Walter Lebien officiating. Survivors include her four daughters, Mrs. Emma Wendelin, Crete; Mrs. Hulda Weiss, Lyndon, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Kuntze of Burlingame, Kansas; Mrs. Lydia Masenthin of Lyndon, and two sons, Fred of Vassar and Carl of Lyndon; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Lydia Reiss of Crete, four brothers, John P. Johnson of Vassar, Kansas; William Johnson of Akron Colorado, Henry Johnson of Hubbard, Minnesota, and Fred Johnson of Crete. Attending the funeral from Crete were Mr. and Mrs. Will Wendelin, Elmer Wendelin, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wendelin, Walter Meinke, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd H. Meinke, and Mr. and Mrs. William Dittmer.
