Smith, Aged 80, Died Wednesday and Was Buried Friday— Mrs. Moon Died Saturday. A.A. Smith Adolphus A. Smith, a pioneer resident of Humeston, died Wednesday night at his home in this city, after an illness of several months' duration, aged 80 years, 4 months and 8 days. He was born in Ohio, Sept. 23, 1830, where he grew to young manhood. At the age of 24, Oct. 26, 1854, he was married to Miss Sarah Rinard. Two years later they came to Iowa and settled on a farm south of where Cambria is now located. This was in the early days of this county and there were not many settlers and few towns in this section of the state. They lived on that farm for several years, and from there they moved to a farm, two miles east of Humeston. In 1887 they came to Humeston to live. As a business man Mr. Smith was careful and honest. His success in a material way was due very largely to his cautiousness and fidelity to duty. He never took chances or tried to get rich quick. He was a good neighbor and was ever interested in unfortunate and needy people. There was always an especially warm place in his heart for homeless and parentless children. During his early life he taught several terms of school. And all who knew him bear record that he lived a useful life. He was a man who will be missed as a neighbor, as a friend and as a Christian worker. His life was a long and useful one and his years were well spent. Mr. Smith was converted to the Christian life when he was 22 years old, and united with the Methodist church, remaining a faithful and loyal member to the end. Before there were any churches in this part of the country his home was used for holding religious services and was a home for the itinerant preacher. In these religious services there were many who found Christ as their Savior. For over fifty years he held some official position in one of the churches with which he was affiliated. Surviving Mr. Smith and mourning deeply his loss are a wife, daughter, Mrs. C. S Price, and husband; daughter, Miss Amelia Smith; adopted son, W. S. Saylor; sister, Mrs. J.N. Curry, other relatives and many friends. The funeral was held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, at the home. Rev. Roberts, his pastor, was in charge of the services. Burial was at Cambria cemetery.
