Agnes was born on May 28, 1926, to her proud parents, Louis "LJ" and Anna (Terpstra) Heidema. On Feb. 17, 1946, her life forever changed when she married the love of her life, Louis Heidema Jr. Louie and Agnes created a picture-perfect love-story life by building their legacy farming in Shepherd. Their life certainly had its share of hard times; however, they were always able to find a way to share smiles, laughter and Agnes' great cooking with their family and friends. Louie was often known for inviting people over for lunch or dinner without advance notice to his lovely lady Agnes who would somehow always be ready for their guests with something she'd create out of nothing and put a feast together fit for a king. Louie and Agnes were very active throughout their life in their church, The New Apostolic Church. It was through this faith that they were able to tackle some of their most difficult challenges in their life: their house burning down, not so fruitful crop years, Louie losing his arm, and finally the hardest of all for Agnes - losing Louie. Their life, however, was filled with far more joys than difficulties. First and foremost was the family they created with their six kids: Louis, Betty, Jim, Jane, Jeanie and Tim. Agnes also had a great number of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews that she shared her life with. If you ask any one of them what was the greatest thing about Agnes or what they remember most about her it comes down to two things - candy and a tin cup. Agnes always had candy. You could ask her at any time and there was always plenty in her purse, or most recently in the drawer next to her bed at the assisted living facility where she finished out her days. She was never without for any child. You always knew she'd have candy or a jar of cookies. Agnes shared a very close relationship with her siblings throughout her life. Those that preceded her: John, David, Jake, George, Anna Lou, Elizabeth and Betty. And one that is survived by Agnes, her friend to the end, her sister Louise. Agnes loved gardening and grew that garden not only in her yard but in her children as well. Agnes is survived by six children and their families: Louis Jay Heidema, Betty Ann Heidema, Jimmy Ray (Lila) Heidema, Jane Lynn (Jamie) Mertz, Jeanie Lee (Keith) Reimer and Timothy David (Sheri) Heidema. Agnes has 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and people she “adopted” as family since she was such a wonderful, welcoming lady. Agnes and Louie's farm had a cistern. It was from that cistern that the tastiest, cold water was brought in a bucket with a tin cup to the mud room ready to welcome any guest as they entered the Heidema home. You always knew with this tin cup that you were at Agnes' house. You also knew that this tin cup was just a precursor to the amazing food, welcoming fun, abundant laughter, and overwhelming love that Agnes would give you as you entered her home. Agnes will always be loved and forever missed. In the words of one of her grandchildren, “there's just no one quite like her.” Viewing will be held at Smith Funeral Chapel, 925 S. 27th St., Billings, on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral service held at New Apostolic Church, 500 15th St. W., Billings, on Friday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. Condolences and other remembrances can be sent to the family at Smith Funeral Chapel, address above, or, if you wish, donations can be made in Agnes' honor to New Apostolic Church, Attn: World Relief, 3753 N.
