Funeral services were held Monday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic church (sic), Lawrence, Ne. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Thomas Au offered the Mass of the Resurrection. Richard Menke was acoloyte. Joe Menke was lector, Connie Jarosik led the congregational singing accompanied by Judy Schroer. Servers at the Mass were four great grandsons: Brian Thome, Jason Menke, Luke Jarosik and Phillip Brockman. Pall-bearers were grandsons: Lyle Menke, Jim Jarosik, Pat Brockman, Dan Menke, Ken Hubl and Wayne Pohlmeier. Honorary pall bearers were Robert Menke, Charlie, Ed, Tom, Tim and Bernie Menke, Gene and Darrell Hubl. Agnes Menke was born to Gerhard and Lena (Bentler) Schroer on June 22, 1899. She attended St. Stephen's school and spent all of her life in the Lawrence community. On April 29, 1919 she was united in marriage to Herman J. Menke at St. Stephen's church (sic). Herman passed away on June 12, 1954. Agnes was a lifelong member of St. Stephens and Sacred Heart church (sic), the Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Keenagers. Agnes was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family were her first and greatest interest. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, two children that died as infants, her brothers Frank and Paul Schroer, sister, May Pohlmeier, Dorothy Buescher and Charlotte Witte. Survivors are two sons Vincent and Adrian both of Lawrence and four daughters: Thelma Koester of Guide Rock, Alice Svoboda & Eileen Hubl of Lawrence and Lola Yetman of Hastings.
