Nedved, the son of Charles W. and Marie (Viktora) Nedved, was born on December 7, 1921, in Pocahontas, Iowa. Nedved, age 94, of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, at Arlington Place Assisted Living in Pocahontas, Iowa. Albert B. Nedved, the son of Charles W. and Marie (Viktora) Nedved, was born on December 7, 1921, in Pocahontas, Iowa. He graduated from Pocahontas Catholic School in 1939 and played in the Catholic Diocesan state basketball tournament. Albert honorably served his country in World War II. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 12, 1944. He was the squad leader of Company K, 184th Infantry Division that served in Hawaii, Leyte, Okinawa, Korea, and Japan. He assigned and supervised the squad during the occupation of Korea and Japan, keeping order and enforcing regulations. Albert participated in the Okinawa Invasion on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945. He earned many ribbons and medals including the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Infantry Combat Badge, and the World War II Victory Medal. Al married Agnes Schumann in Fonda, Iowa, on August 19, 1946. They farmed and raised their family in the Pocahontas community. Of Bohemian descent, he was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church and a member of Resurrection Parish. He was also a charter member of VFW Post No. 4512, having served as the only adjutant general and a member of American Legion Liberty Post No. 18. Farming was his life-long passion. He enjoyed playing cards, attending farm sales, and socializing at the Pocahontas Co-op. He could repair anything and everything from farm machinery to toasters and vacuums. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Marshall) Amoroso of North Liberty, IA and Mary Potter of Iowa City, IA; son, Richard (Joan) of Pocahontas, IA; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jill (Matt) Tentinger, Iowa City, IA, Molly (Mark) Grogin, Brooklyn, NY, Alex (Kelly) Potter, North Liberty, IA, Peter (Sarah) Nedved, Coal Valley, IL, Ben (Jill) Nedved, Humboldt, IA, Matt Nedved, Waterloo, IA; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Lavon (Leo) Francis of Palmer; sister-in-law, Colleen (Lonnie) Paul of Pocahontas and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes in 2013; son, Mark in 1981; infant great-grandson, Joseph Nedved in 2016; brother, Cletus and sisters, Benita Schnetter and Dorothy Nedved.
