Read More	The Hastings Daily Tribune (Hastings, NE), Monday, December 5, 1949; pg. 1 Lawrence Man Is Accident Victim LAWRENCE — Albert Menke, 48, of this city was killed Sunday afternoon at the Julius Mazour home when a shed which he and three other men were moving fell from a truck and caught Mr. Menke in such a manner that he was crushed. The accident occurred about 2 p. m. after the men had moved the shed, which measures about 10 by 10 feet, from the country and just had arrived at the Mazour place with it. Mr. Menke lived about a half hour after he was struck, according to the witnesses. He had been a farmer in the Lawrence community for a number of years and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Menke is survived by four brothers, H. B. and Al Menke of Lawrence and Herman J. and George Menke of Bostwick, and a sister, Mrs. Lena Ostdiek of Lawrence. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 9 a. m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church south of Lawrence with the Rev. D. J. Haskamp officiating. Burial will be in the St Stephen's cemetery (sic). The body will be taken to the H. B. Menke home today by the Merten Brothers Funeral Home at Blue Hill. ================== Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, December 8, 1949; pg. 1 Accident Fatal to Bert Menke Death again visited our little community Sunday aftenoon (sic), leaving the community saddened over the lose of one of itn (sic) highly respected members. Albert Menke was accidentaly (sic) killed while helping unload a small brooder coop at the Julius Mazour home in town. Several men were helping move the building in from the farm, but while unloading it the building slipped, pinning Albert underneath. When the building was lifted he was able to crawl out from under, and it was though (sic) he was not injured badly. However a doctor was called to arrive only rive (NOTE: Typed as written in newspaper) only a few minutes before death. The deceased may have suffered a broken back, although for the past year he has suffered a heart ailment, and death may have resulted from shock. Albert Menke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Menke was born on a farm southeast of Lawrence on Jan. 25, 1903 and passed away at Lawrence on Dec. 4, 1949 at the age of 46 years 11 months and 9 days. He spent the greater pert of his life in the St. Stephens community. He liked to travel and spent much time in various states. He was a hard worker and was always able to find employment. He always left a community with host of friends earned by his high principles of christian living his cheerful disposition and generous nature. He was a veteran of World War 2. The deceased is survived by one sister Mrs. Joe Ostdiek 4 brothers Henry, Herman, George and AI. He was preceeded (sic) in death by his parents, a brother Lawrence and a sister Mrs. Joe Schroer. Funeral services were held at St. Stephens Chucth Wednesday morning at 9:00. The Rev. B.J. Haskamp was celebrant of the Requiem High Mass. Burial was made in the St. Stephens cemetary (sic). Pallbearers were all nephews, Arnold Schroer, Walter Menke, Norbert Brockman, Vincent Menke Herman Ostdiek and Frank Jarosik.
