Sherman offered the Requiem High Mass. Msgr. Downey of Blue Hill was present in the Sanctuary. Mass servers were five grandsons of the deceased, Darrell Menke, Pat Brockman, David Lipovsky, Donald Faimon and Melvin Menke. Msgr. Sherman officiated at the burial services in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Arnold Schroer, Gerald Menke, Eldon Ostdiek, Leroy Menke, Vincent Menke and Adrian Menke. Mr. Menke had been in poor health with a heart condition for several years. He became seriously ill last week, Wednesday and was taken to the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings where he passed away about five o'clock Saturday afternoon. He was a lifetime resident of this community and will be greatly missed by his family and host of friends. He had been a prosperous farmer who worked hard and devotedly throughout his life. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. To his family he was a loving husband and father. Henry B. Menke, son of Theodore and Elizabeth (Schutte) Menke was born on November 20, 1889, near Lawrence, Nebraska and passed away at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings on March 23, 1963 at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 3 days. He attended St. Stephen's School and grew to young manhood in that community. He was united in marriage to Katherine Knoop on May 2nd, 1911 at St. Stephen's Church. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1961. Mr. and Mrs. Menke farmed in the St. Stephen's community until 1953 when they retired to a home in town. The deceased is survived by his wife Katherine, two sons, Elmer of Blue Hill and Walter of Lawrence; three daughters, Mrs. Norbert Brockman (Evelyn), Mrs. Arnold Faimon (Martha) of Lawrence and Mrs. James Lipovsky (Ione) of Fairfield; 28 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also a sister, Mrs. Joe Ostdiek of Lincoln and two brothers, Al Menke and George Menke of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by 5 sons, Gilbert passed away at the age of 2, Clarence age 2, and Aloysious age 1 died with the flu in 1918, Leroy passed away 2 years later at the age of 3. Vernon passed away in 1947 at the age of 28. Also a sister, Mrs. Johanna Schroer and three brothers, Hermam, Albert and Lawrence. Among those from a distance attending the final rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ostdiek and family of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Mohrfeld, Toby Mohrfeld and Ben Menke of West Point, Iowa, Mrs. Wayne Reindch and children, Mrs. Mary Ostdiek and Mrs. Mary Theer of Geneva, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Menke of Milford.
