Description	:	Albert Carl Oller was born December 21, 1889 one mile west of Buttermilk, Kansas on the William Oller farm. He was the oldest of five children. He attended school at Avilla and grew into manhood in the Buttermilk area. As a young man he played on the Buttermilk baseball team. Read More	Albert Carl Oller was born December 21, 1889 one mile west of Buttermilk, Kansas on the William Oller farm. He was the oldest of five children. He attended school at Avilla and grew into manhood in the Buttermilk area. As a young man he played on the Buttermilk baseball team. Laura Emaline Kurz was born November 10, 1888 at Mount Olive, Missouri. She came to Comanche County at the age of 13 with her father and sisters. She attended Coldwater schools and later clerked at Allderdice's Store. Albert and Laura were married April 23, 1913 at Coldwater. Their first home was two miles south and one mile west of Buttermilk where Albert was engaged in farming. Their daughter Elsie was born at their farm home on June 20, 1915. During Albert's farming days he also operated a custom threshing crew. When Elsie started school the family moved to Protection, Kansas and Albert operated the local ice plant. They later moved to Wilmore, Kansas when Albert purchased a Minneapolis Moline dealership. While living in Wilmore Albert also ran a silent movie theater above his store. He later built and operated the Wilmore Telephone Company. After operating the telephone company for several years, he sold it and moved back to the farm south of Buttermilk. At about this same time he built a homemade trailer house that was a forerunner of our modern trailer homes. While living on the farm Laura had a severe stroke that left her right side paralyzed. Elsie stayed at home during this time to help care for her mother. Laura was in a wheel chair for several years and finally began walking with a cane, but she never completely recovered from her illness. In 1945 Albert and Laura moved to Coldwater and he operated the Champlain Oil Company. He later sold this business and built several houses in Coldwater which he used as rental units. He also built a laundry in back of their home which Laura Operated until they sold it in the early sixties. Albert operated a furniture store in connection with the laundry. In his later years Albert was an avid traveler. He loved nothing better than to hook on to his trailer and head south for the winter. He and Laura spent several winters in the Brownsville, Texas area. He also liked to take his daughter and her two sons on trips to Colorado and the surrounding area. Many of his trips included attendance at a good horse race or a baseball game. After suffering a heart attack, Albert died March 19, 1966, and was buried at the Crownhill Cemetery in Coldwater.
