He was born November 11, 1912, at the Joe Clark Farm in the Ivanpah community of Greenwood County, the son of Harry Herbert and Margaret Augusta (Lehmann) Jackson. Swede was a lifetime resident of Greenwood County where he attended rural schools and Eureka High School. In 1937, he was married to Viola Marie Stevens. Swede was a well known amateur boxer and traveled extensively in the area for bouts with other amateur boxers. He was born November 11, 1912, at the Joe Clark Farm in the Ivanpah community of Greenwood County, the son of Harry Herbert and Margaret Augusta (Lehmann) Jackson. Swede was a lifetime resident of Greenwood County where he attended rural schools and Eureka High School. In 1937, he was married to Viola Marie Stevens. Swede was a well known amateur boxer and traveled extensively in the area for bouts with other amateur boxers. Swede was a cable tool driller in the oil fields and also drilled water wells throughout the Midwest. One of his many accomplishments was that his crew drilled the deepest water well in Iowa. On September 16, 1953, he was united in marriage to Cora Abigail Leedy at El Dorado. They made their home in Eureka. Gail preceded him in death on March 4, 1979. Swede was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Elks Club, the Eureka Country Club and a supporter of VFW Post activities. He is survived by one son, John C. Jackson of Eureka; four daughters: Patty Bunyard of Eureka, Phyliss Churchill of Bloomington, Ind., Alberta Lewis of Albuquerque, NM, and Robin Knotts of Kechi; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; longtime companion, Alberta L. Curnutt; one brother, Harry E. "Hap" Jackson, and one sister, Margaret Huntington-Moore, all of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother John J., sister Mildred, and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday, October 20, at the Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home in Eureka with Rev. Mark Gruner, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
